Trying to keep out open source invaders, MySpace has decided to erect walls around its interface, claiming YouTube, Flickr and others are simply leeches on the MySpace body. Or as Peter Chernin says,
“If you look at virtually any Web 2.0 application, whether its YouTube, whether it’s Flickr, whether it’s Photobucket or any of the next-generation Web applications, almost all of them are really driven off the back of MySpace.”
It appears MySpace is going to make their space less friendly to outside companies by blocking external links in flash widgets and more. They also plan to develop proprietary widgets for video and other services.
As TechCrunch says, “It sounds like MySpace’s owners may not want to play a game where everyone wins.”
Too bad. We’ll see what happens. Maybe MySpace won’t take their ball go home. And if they do, hopefully someone will come and play even better ball than before.

This is exactly what we should all have expected the second we heard about Rupert Murdochs aquisition of the site. Any website he touches fails.
Myspace is already having problems growing. They haven’t grown a significant amount in the last 6 months. The errors and lack of improvements are driving people away. Clamping down on their profiles and not letting them have many of the cool features they like will just make more Myspace users leave for facebook which is opening it’s doors more and more.
And as far as anybody is concerned, a lot of these companies run just as much off Myspace as Myspace runs off of them. Myspace lacks a lot, from a page designer to image slideshows to polls and tests, to banners to show your friends. People would get bored of being the same as everyone else rather quickly if it were Myspace and only Myspace that made anything for Myspace.

In response to the first comment made about MySpace, I ask, why do people feel the need to curse when responding to anything or anyone? Cursing does not help get a point across any better nor, does it help a person’s creditability. However, with all the syntax and grammar mistakes this person makes in the comment it’s not surprising the person also uses curse words. What a dumb~ass!
