I’ve explored a few different social searching sites, but nothing really grabbed me or made me feel like I was missing something if I didn’t use them. Not sure if this one will be any different, but it has some interesting features. Searchles allows you to connect with other folks who are doing similar search and post those searches to a common pool. Sort of a social my delicious I guess. You can search tags and groups to find like minded searchers. And the idea behind it is that people may find potential networking parnters for business, creative projects, etc. I notice several business groups on their, so this might have some interesting possiblitites. Time will tell.

Amy from Searchles – Thanks for the nice post. Not a bad synopsis either for a first impression. 🙂 To give you a better idea of how it works, you might check out my group at Searchles called “Identity Theft Legislation.” http://www.searchles.com/groups/show/Identity+Theft+Legislation. I created it as a resource for a reporter friend of mine who was studying federal legislation introduced over the summer for an article and wanted to know how it stacked up against state legislative initiatives. (I happen to know alot on the subject though work I’ve done in a past life!) Because of the tags I chose, the reporter was able to instantly zero in on possible sources for the article, key players and issues. Having all these links in one place and being able to quickly zero in on what interests you through tags saved this reporter a lot of time. Anyway – I have continued to add to this group as I come across things and it now serves as an institutional knowledge base of good resources for those who are interested in tracking legislative initiatives. While I hope that other people who are knowledgeable about the issue will eventually join and contribute to my group, whether they do or not, it’s a very useful tool for me when I get requests like this. Also – something I’m quite proud of – if you do a google search on “identity theft legislation” and bennett, my group is the first result. I’m sure Senator Bennett’s people wouldn’t be too happy about this, but the legislation he introduced was horrible for consumers and that fact is now far more easy for people to discover. I did a review of Searchles; I found enough people were focused on the topics that I cover for my work that it made sense for me to become a member of the community. I’ve written several articles based on ideas I received from links I saw posted to the appropriate groups, and I’d like to think I’ve also “given back” to the community with my own contributions when I’ve run across interesting information in my online research.
